Step by step guide to fitness

Getting back into fitness can seem daunting! If you’re new to fitness, then you may not know where to start. We’ve put together a little guide to help you get back into fitness.

Step 1 Evaluate and set goals

The first step with fitness is to understand why you want to start working out, is it for health, or to lose weight, or to tone and build muscle? It would be a good idea to weigh yourself and take note of it so you can track your progress.

Step 2 Diet

The second step is to look at your diet and be honest with yourself during this process, start tracking what you’re eating by using a food diary. There are free apps such a MyFitnessPal which allows you to scan food labels so you can work out what you’re eating each day. It’s handy to see how much carbs, protein, fat, sugars etc you’re consuming- that way, you can change your diet to suit your fitness goals.

Step 3 Make a plan

Once you have looked at your diet and have set your fitness goals, you need to work out how you’re going to achieve them. You could sign up to a gym or work out from your home, there’s many free apps available such as Couch to 5K which aims to get people running 5k- if you’re new to running, it’s a great app to slowly introduce you to running and build up your fitness and cardio along the way.

There are also many free timetable apps so you can schedule meals and workouts with reminders to you don’t miss a day.

Step 4 Track your progress

It’s important to track your progress along the way so you can see if your plan is working. If it isn’t, then you may have to tweak or change it until it works for you. The most important thing is not to compare yourself to others, this plan is your own and it’s based on what will work best for you- so don’t get yourself down by looking at another person and seeing their results, everybody is different, and progress will be different from person to person.

Step 5 Celebrate your progress

When you achieve another milestone, celebrate it- this could be getting your nails or hair done, or treating yourself to some new clothes to show off your results or even by getting a new tattoo. Different things will help you feel more confident and aid your transformation, so does what work for you. These little incentives may help boost motivation and if your results see slow, don't worry- hard work always pays off.

Step 6 Get the right supplements

Protein shakes are a favourite of many gym goers and finding the right supplements to aid your progress is important. There are different vitamins you could take that will help with your gym recovery. CBD is a great supplement to aid gym recovery, better sleep and some studies have shown it can help you build muscle and aid weight loss.
